Dolores “Dody” Hershberger, age 86 of LaOtto , Indiana peacefully passed away Saturday , April 13 at Heritage Point living facility Fort Wayne IN
She is now home with her beloved husband, Larry. She was a beautiful person who made friends wherever she went and loved to brighten people’s day along the way. It seemed she could talk to anyone and if you were her friend, you were also considered part of her family.
She was born Dolores Jane “Dody” Beltz on January 14, 1938 in Pittsburgh PA. Dody was the only daughter born to Margret “Peg” (Dunay) and William Henry “Bill” Beltz. She married Lawrence “Larry” Eugene Hershberger on April 26, 1958 in LaOtto, Indiana.
For 52 years, Dody and Larry were proudly dedicated to the LaOtto Volunteer Fire Department with Dody actively involved in the ladies auxiliary from its foundation.
Dody graduated from Huntertown High School with the class of 1956 and stayed friends with many of her classmates the rest of her life.
Dody was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in LaOtto, Indiana, and she was very proud of the LaOtto community. She was also a member of the “Country Friends” chapter of the Noble County Extension Homemakers club.
She was a girl scout leader for many years as well as teacher’s aid to special needs children. She and Larry never missed attending anything their children were involved in. She loved camping for many years in Indiana State Parks and Ludington Michigan with Larry and their many dogs. She was also know by many as a waitress at the LaOtto Farmers Corner Restaurant.
The last 3 years she has lived at the wonderful Heritage Point living facility where she made many friends and adopted many of the staff and residents as her extended family.
She is survived by her daughter, Kim (Tim) Diehm (Avilla, IN) and son, Troy (Lisa) Hershberger (Winona Lake, IN); five grandchildren: Brandon (Paige) Diehm; Brittney Diehm; Chelsea (James) Miglin; Cameron (Madi Werbianskyj) Hershberger; and Connor Hershberger and four great grandchildren: Fuel, Harvest, Kamryn and Sawyer. She was proceeded in death by her husband.
