Alice V. Ricketts March 26, 1921 - January 6, 2014 Alice V. Ricketts, age 92, of Garrett, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2014 at DeKalb Health surrounded by her loving family. She was a true matriarch of the family. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her faith, church and family was what she lived for. She was born March 26, 1921 in Madison, WI to the late Willard S. and Blanche M. (Chapman) Countryman. She married the love of her life, Benny L. Ricketts Sr. on April 4, 1942 in Wauseca, MN and he passed away on March 5, 2002. She was a homemaker in every since of the word. She was a member of the Garrett Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was an Elder. She was also a member of Daughters of the American Revolution. Alice is survived by her son, Benny L. Ricketts Jr. of Antioch, TN; her daughter, Anne Woodward of Garrett; 4 grandchildren, Virginia R. (Ricketts) Whalen of Minnesota, Jill E. (Ricketts) Brenner of Ohio, Benny "Chip" L. Ricketts III of Mississippi and Darla "DeeDee" D. Gingery of Garrett and 9 great grandchildren, Cara V. Gillespie of Fort Wayne, Kiersten V. Alvarez of Pennsylvania, Cameron A. Alvarez of Pennsylvania, Cray D. Alvarez of Minnesota, Bailie E. Ricketts of Ohio, Hunter L. Ricketts of Ohio, McKenna E. Ricketts of Ohio, Charles R. Gingery of Garrett and Kaleb E. Gingery of Garrett. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Betsy Lou Ricketts; brother, Richard C. Countryman; sister, Janet L. Miller and 3 grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, 1277 C.R. 56, Garrett. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Bill Haworth officiating. Burial will follow in Christian Union Cemetery, Garrett. Memorials are to the family in care of Thomas Funeral Home.
