Alice Irene Shaffer age 93 of Garrett, IN died Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Miller's Merry Manor - Garrett, IN. She was born May 10, 1922 in Auburn IN to William L. and Rosa (Parmer) Church. She married Lewis Martin Shaffer on May 10, 1938 in Garrett, IN and he died July 13, 1989. She retired from Cooper Tire in 1977 after 10 A½ years. She was a member of Cedar Creek Church of the Brethren. Alice is survived by 4 sons: Leonard (Jean) Shaffer, Auburn, IN; Gaylord "Doc" (Carol) Shaffer, Alamosa, CO; Blaine Shaffer, Alamosa, CO and Michael (Phyllis) Shaffer, Columbia City, IN.; 17 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Alice was preceded in death by her parents: William L. and Rosa Church; husband: Lewis Martin Shaffer; son: Thomas Shaffer, 1 granddaughter, 6 brothers and 5 sisters. Visitation will be from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Thomas Funeral Home, 1277 C.R. 56, Garrett, IN Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Thomas Funeral Home with Pastor Brad Hardesty officiating.
