Alice Sobieski March 24, 1925 - October 18, 2012 Alice Sobieski age 87and a lifetime resident of Garrett, IN, died Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the Laurels of DeKalb in Butler, IN. Alice was born March 24, 1925 in Garrett, IN to Daniel D. and Elva M. (Shirk) Smith and they preceded her in death. She married James M. Sobieski on August 23, 1947 in Garrett, IN and he died June 20, 1989. Alice was an accountant at Hubbard Spool in Garrett, IN; Mutual Jobbing (Haffner's Five and Dime stores) for 15 years and later for attorney Charles Winan. Alice was a member of the Garrett United Methodist Church, Garrett American Legion Auxiliary and was the curator for the train museum with the Garrett Historical Society. Alice is survived by 2 daughters and a son: Roxanne (Todd) Bonecutter, Auburn, IN; Debra (Duane) Kiefer, Ft. Wayne, IN and Daniel (Marcia) Sobieski, Rancho Cucamonga, CA. She is survived by a sister: Evelyn Shumway, Garrett, IN; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Alice was preceded in death by her husband: James M. Sobieski; parents: Daniel D. and Elva M. Smith; a daughter: Margaret Sobieski and a sister: Geraldine Smith. Services will take place at 1 p.m. Monday, October 22, 2012 at Thomas Funeral Home - Garrett, IN with Dr. Scott Shoaff officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Monday at Thomas Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Christian Union Cemetery - Garrett, IN Memorials are to the Alzheimer's Association
