Bette C. Smith, 87 of Garrett, died on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at Bethlehem Woods in Fort Wayne. She was born March 1, 1924 to the late Henry and Katheryn (Potter) Moses. She married Walter "Bud" Smith on December 22, 1942 in Garrett and he died on December 22, 1997. Bette was a secretary at Bauman-Harnish Rubber Company in Garrett before her retirement. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Garrett Eagles Auxiliary and Garrett American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by two sons; Patrick and Frederick Smith of Garrett and two daughters; Susan Burtch of Naples, FL and Martha (Scott) Troutner of Fort Wayne; 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph Smith and a brother, William Moses. The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, 1277 C.R. 56 Garrett, with Rev. Joe Laher officiating. Burial will follow in Christian Union Cemetery in Garrett. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service.
