Betty M. Custer age 85 of Garrett, IN died at 12:50 p.m. Monday, July 26, 2010 at Provena Sacred Heart Home - Avilla, IN. She was born October 31, 1924 in Ashley, IN to Clifford L. and Edna K. (Sherwood) Baird and they preceded her in death. She married Finley J. Custer on October 19, 1957 in Waterloo, IN and he died December 29, 2004. Betty worked as a book keeper for Dr. Eberhard and at Custer Grain from 1977-1984. Betty is survived by a daughter and son in-law, Sandra and Richard Bond, Garrett, IN and a son, Jerald H. Gnagy Jr. Boulder, CO. She is survived by her grandchildren, Tara Maggert, Indianapolis, IN and Ty and Robin Maggert, Garrett, IN; a great granddaughter - Macy Maggert survives in Garrett. Betty is also survived by a step granddaughter, Jodi Bond, Phoenix, AZ. Betty is survived by her brother, Buddy L. Baird, Butler, IN and sister, Roma L. Baker, Auburn, IN. Betty was preceded in death by her husband: Finley J. Custer; 2 brothers: Charles and Richard Baird; half sister: Dorothy Southern and a grandson: Alexander Heath Gnagy. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Thomas Funeral Home - Garrett, IN Services will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, July 30, 2010 at Thomas Funeral Home with Tom Novy officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery - Auburn, IN. The family asked that in lieu of flowers - memorials be made to the Garrett American Legion or the Garrett Historical Society.
