Betty Jean (Colgan) McMaken, age 73, of Garrett, died on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at DeKalb Health in Auburn. She was born April 20, 1941, the daughter of the late Karl and Betty (Henry) Colgan. She married Jerry J. McMaken on May 12, 1962 in Garrett. She was a member of the Auburn Church of Christ and a member of the Pythian Sisters for over 50 years with the highest rank of Past Supreme Representative and she enjoyed gardening, going to the lake, spending time with family and friends and her dog Mac. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jerry McMaken; their children, Jodi (Dan) Premo, Jerry (Beth) McMaken, Janell (Dan) Garman; their grandchildren, Lyle (Andrea) Freeze, Dalton Premo, Kevan McMaken, Tyler (Ashley) McMaken, Jessica Neuhaus (and family), Chelsea Neuhaus (and family), Kele Jennings, Grace Garman, Justin Garman, Joshua Garman, Georgia Garman; their great granddaughter, Aurora Freeze; and her brothers, John Colgan, Floyd (Marge) Colgan and Duane (Jo) Colgan. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, 1277 C.R. 56, Garrett and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. The Pythian Sisters will have a service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the Auburn Church of Christ, 208 W. 18th St., Auburn, with Pastor Joe Heins officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in St. Joe. Memorials are to the Auburn Church of Christ or American Cancer Society.
