Carl Raymond Bauman, age 89 of Auburn, died on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 10:23 p.m. at Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville. He was born June 9, 1920 in Jefferson Township, Noble County, IN to Wlater and Beulah (Gard) Bauman. He graduated in 1933 from the Zion one room Schoolhouse in Jefferson Township. He graduated from Kendallville High School in 1937 and from the International Business School in Fort Wayne with an Associates Degree in 1939. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve during World War II. He married Lorraine Catherine Hentschel August 18, 1946 in Long Island, NY and she died June 22, 2007. Carl worked as a Crane operator at the Auburn Foundry, he had 42 years of service when he retired. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran in Auburn for 60 years and a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society "SPEBSQSA" for 21 years. He is survived by a daughter, Carolyn and Richard Platt of Fort Wayne; daughter, Janette and Scott Pressler of Auburn; son, Kenneth and Sherrie Bauman of South Whitley and a daughter, Laura and Paul Gurgos of Bartlett, IL; and a sister, O'Donna Uhl of Albion. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 4 step grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and 1 step great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Robert and Alfred Bauman and sisters, Esther Bauman and Beatrice Truelove. A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn with Rev. Lloyd Bickel officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10 - 11 a.m. at the church. Memorials are to Trinity Lutheran Church or DeKalb Animal Shelter.
