Carl E. Strong, age 94 of Land O Lakes, FL and formerly of Allen County, died on Sunday, August 19, 2012 in Hudson, FL. He was born November 4, 1917 in rural DeKalb Co. to the late Willard and Mary Irene (Carnahan) Strong. On January 11, 1939, Carl married Florine Esther Swander in Auburn and was by her side until her death on February 25, 2012. Carl had worked on the family farm, been a truck driver and then went to work at GE, before working for the Civil Service in Hawaii during World War II. After living in Hawaii for several years, they moved back to their farm at 8427 Bass Rd. in Allen County which he farmed while working for G.E. He is survived by a daughter and son in-law, Lani and Richard Thorn of Land O Lakes, FL; a granddaughter, Kristi (Kevin) Taylor of Louisville, KY; a grandson, Todd (Danielle) Schlichter of Glendale, CA; two great granddaughters, Janice Taylor of Louisville and Kenley Schlichter of Glendale and a sister and brother in-law, Vada and John Carper of Waterloo. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ivan and a sister, Ruth. A memorial service will be held at Thomas Funeral Home in Garrett on Friday, September 21, 2012 at 11 a.m. with Rev. William Haworth officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn.
