Catherine L. Cleland, age 85 of Garrett, died on Saturday, June 1, 2013. She was born March 25, 1928 in Garrett to Walter W. and Inez L. (Haynes) Kern. She was a waitress at the Railroad Inn for 12 years retiring in 1988 and then at Handy and Harmon in Kendallville until 1993. Surviving are 2 sons, Larry and Sam Cleland and 2 daughters, Gayle Asher and Peggy Kirchner; a sister, Sue Ann Kern; 7 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 sisters, Mary Gravit and Ruth Pepple. A memorial dinner will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at 2 p.m. at The Church at Garrett, 1370 S. Randolph St. in Garrett.
