Charles Edward Ley age 89 of Garrett, IN died at 3:17 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2011 at Provena Sacred Heart Home - Avilla, IN. Charles was born November 12, 1921 in Avilla, IN to William L. and Ethel (Aman) Ley and they preceded him in death. He married Victoria Bonkoski on June 22, 1946 in Garrett, IN and she died on April 30, 1979. He worked as a car inspector on the B & O Railroad for 34 years, retiring in 1983. He was a WW II Army veteran. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church - Avilla, IN; Knights of Columbus Council #1790 - Garrett, IN; Garrett Eagles and the Avilla American Legion Post 240. Survivors include 2 daughters and a son: Peg Gaar, Garrett, IN; Connie Ley and her companion Dick Clark, Fort Wayne, IN and Joe Ley and his companion Linda Duke, Garrett, IN. His surviving grandchildren are: Julie (Ron) Regazzi, Leo, IN; Travis (Christina) Gaar, Garrett, IN; Nicholas (Amanda) Ley, US Army; Michal Ley and Madison Ley, Auburn, IN. His great grandchildren are: Victoria and Matthew Regazzi, Leo, IN and Connor and Kaylee Gaar, Garrett, IN. Also surviving are his 2 brothers and a sister: Victor (Ursula) Ley and Don (Mary) Ley, both of Avilla, IN. and Teresa Glasgow, Hudson, IN. Charles was preceded in death by his wife: Victoria Ley; brother: John Ley; infant daughter: Mary Catherine Ley; son in-law: Terry Gaar and grandson: Jeffrey Gaar. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Thomas Funeral Home - Garrett, IN. with a rosary service at 2 p.m. There will also be calling from 10 - 11 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church - Avilla, IN with Fr. Edward Erpelding officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery - Avilla, IN with Military graveside services by the Avilla American Legion and the U.S. Army. Memorials are to: Masses at St. Joseph Catholic Church - Garrett, IN; St. Mary's Catholic Church - Avilla, IN or St. Joseph Catholic School - Garrett, IN.
