Obituary

David K. Ferguson Sr. age 91 went to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, August 15, 2026. David was born June 1, 1935 in Keyser Twp. To Arthur and Velma Pauline (Sliger) Ferguson and they preceded him in death. He married the love of his life – Evelyn Julia Zecca on October 6, 1956 in Garrett, IN and she passed on October 5, 2010.

David was a senior buyer at Dana Corporation – Auburn, IN for 25 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church – Garrett, IN and spent 18 years with the Boy Scouts of America as a leader.

A polio survivor, he learned to walk five times with an unending spirit. He raised five children, was a faithful husband, and traveled to all 50 states. He accomplished things most of us would find daunting, never allowing his physical limitations to define him. His perseverance and determination are an inspiration to all.

He is survived by a son: David (Theresa) Ferguson Jr., Kendallville, IN; daughter: Julia (Mike) Steward, Garrett, IN; son: Thomas (Alissa) Ferguson, Galveston, TX; daughter: Diana (Henry) Waring, Avilla, IN; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

David was preceded in death by his parents: Arthur and Velma Pauline Ferguson; wife: Evelyn Ferguson; son: Brent Ferguson; brothers: James Ferguson and Byron Ferguson.

Visitation will take place from 3-7 p.m. Monday, August 24, 2026 at Thomas Funeral Home, 1277 C.R. 56, Garrett, IN

A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at St. Joseph Catholic Church – Garrett, IN with Fr. Brian Isenbarger officiating.

Burial will follow in Christian Union Cemetery – Garrett, IN

David asked that in lieu of flowers – memorial donations be made to: Riley Children’s Hospital, St. Jude Hospital for Children or St. Martin’s Healthcare – Garrett, IN.
