Denzil D. Barger, age 85 died at 8:40 a.m. Monday, January 26, 2009 at his daughter's home in Auburn, IN. He was a Garrett, IN resident for over 50 years. He was born August 22, 1923 in Harriman, TN to Alfred and Ollie (Ooten) Barger and they preceded him in death. He married Cecil L. Thomas on July 12, 1943 in Dalton, GA and she died June 16, 1991. He worked for the City of Garrett on the Street Department, retiring in 1988. Surviving are a son, Dale Barger of Garrett, IN and 6 daughters, Carolyn Stallings of Butler, IN; Debra Haiflich of Auburn, IN; Cathy Clapp, Darlene Barger, Penny Marti and Lisa Kennedy all of Garrett, IN. He is also survived by a sister, Reba Bradshaw of Crossville, TN, 18 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Denzil was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Eugene Barger, 2 grandchildren, 4 brothers and 4 sisters. Visitation will take place from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Thomas Funeral Home in Garrett, IN. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at Thomas Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn, IN. Memorials are to the Lutheran Pediatric Oncology in Fort Wayne, IN.
