Donald L. Carper, age 85 of Garrett, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at the Chandler House in Kendallville. He was born August 28, 1926 in Garrett to the late Victor C. and Olga Faye (Miller) Carper. He married Marjorie J. Burtch on November 13, 1947 in Fort Wayne and she survives in Garrett. Don worked on the B&O Railroad for 27 years before retiring in 1987. He was a Veteran of World War II having served in the Navy. He was a member of the First Church of Christ in Garrett. Also surviving is his daughter and son in-law, Mary Lee and Ron Freeze of Garrett; his son and daughter in-law, Rex A. and Leslie Carper of Copley, OH; his brother, James (Jerilyn) Carper of Kendallville and 3 grandsons, Gregory (Laura) Freeze, Matthew (Jamie) Freeze and Timothy Freeze all of Garrett and 2 great grandchildren, Madison Freeze and Greg T. Freeze. Don was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Gene and Gerald Carper and a sister, Joan Kammerer. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home with Brother Bud Owen officiating. Burial will follow in Christian Union Cemetery in Garrett. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 27, 2012 from 5-7 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Garrett. Memorials are to Heartland Hospice or the First Church of Christ in Garrett
