Doris Jean Gerber age 81 of Garrett, IN died at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Miller's Merry Manor - Garrett, IN. Doris was born December 27, 1928 in Garrett, IN to John and Edith (Wilmot) Yarde and they preceded her in death. She married Carl L. Gerber on September 7, 1947 in Garrett, IN and he survives in Garrett, IN. Doris was a homemaker and had worked at Miller's Merry Manor for a period of time. She was a member of the Cedar Creek Church of the Brethren and the Women's Fellowship. She was also a member of Sigma Phi Gamma and the Garrett Homemakers. Doris is survived by her husband: Carl L. Gerber, Garrett, IN and a daughter: Carla (Scott) Winebrenner, Garrett, IN and a son: Greg (Tammie), Trenton, SC. She is survived by 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, a brother: Dale (Alice) Yarde, Garrett, IN and a sister: Nancy (Don) Potter, Fort Wayne, IN. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, December 24, 2010 at the Cedar Creek Church of the Brethren - Garrett, IN with Pastor Brad Hardesty officiating. There will be calling at the church from 9-10 a.m. Visitation will also take place from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Thomas Funeral Home - Garrett, IN. Burial will take place at Embrey Cemetery - Garrett, IN following the services. Memorials are to the Cedar Creek Church of the Brethren or the Kidney Foundation.
