Edward Allen Howard, age 80 of Garrett, died on Thursday, November 26, 2009 at 6:34 p.m. at DeKalb Memorial Hospital in Auburn. He was born November 7, 1929 in Monticello, IN to William R. and Grace L. (Landgreaver) Howard, they preceded him in death. Edward served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 - 1953 and was in the Honor Guard in 1953. He married Doris A. Dolan on October 28, 1951 in Garrett. He was a Trainmaster on the B&O railroad for 41 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Garrett Masonic Lodge for 50 years. Edward is survived by his wife, Doris A. Howard; his son, Steven Howard and his mother in-law, Margaret D. Dolan all of Garrett. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 29, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. and an Order of the Eastern Star service at 7:45 p.m. The funeral will be held on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. William Haworth officiating. Burial will follow in Embrey Cemetery in rural Garrett with military graveside services conducted by the Garrett American Legion and VFW.
