Eleanor Smith age 98 of Garrett, IN died Sunday, June 16, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Eleanor was born March 13, 1926 in Jackson Township to Kent and Ruth Ann (Draggoo) Provines.

Eleanor married Melvin "Smitty" Smith on April 1, 1945 in Auburn, IN and he died May 18, 2015.

She was a farm wife and milked cows for over 50 years; she was an office person for Garrett Veterinary Hospital and was a bus monitor for 5 years for G-K-B Schools. She was currently the CEO of Smith Farms. She traveled with her husband Melvin to dairy conferences around the world. They visited Hawaii, Germany and England to name a few.

Eleanor was a member of Altarstar Methodist Church.

Eleanor is survived by her son: Wayne and Deborah Smith, Garrett, IN; Grandson: Brian J. Smith, Garrett, IN;

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents: Kent and Ruth Ann Provines, husband: Melvin Smith, daughter: Marilyn Smith; brothers: Hubert Provines and Bruce Provines; sisters: June Deihl and Jean Surface.

Visitation will take place from 4-7 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2024 at Thomas Funeral  Home, 1277 C.R. 56, Garrett, IN

Services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home with Marcia Weller officiating.

Burial will follow in Cedar Creek Cemetery – rural Auburn, IN
