Esther L. Smith March 29, 1920 - September 28, 2012 Esther L. Smith, age 92 of Garrett, died on Friday, September 28, 2012 at Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home in Garrett. She was born March 29, 1920 in Hicksville, OH to the late Clyde and Dee (Beerbower) Lindsey. She married John L. Smith on July 1, 1947 and he died on December 12, 1989. Esther had worked at Cooper Tire until her retirement in 1976. She was a member of the First Church of Christ in Garrett. She is survived by a son and daughter in-law, Ron and Chris Smith of Garrett; a daughter and a son in-law, Connie McCann Short and Herb Cady of Houston, TX; 14 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren and 2 great great great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Bonnie McCann Temple and Betty McCann Squier and four grandchildren, Kim Forker Farren, Donny Cupp,Tammy Squier and Aaron Temple. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the First Church of Christ in Garrett, with Brother Bud Owen officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 1, 2012 from 4-8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Garrett and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are to the DeKalb Cancer Society
