Florine Esther Swander Strong, age 91 of Land O Lakes, FL and formerly of Garrett, died on Saturday, February 25, 2012. She was born April 9, 1920 in Halloway, OH to the late Wilbur and Gertrude (Maurer) Swander. She married Carl Strong on January 11, 1939 in Auburn and he survives in Land O Lakes. Florine was a secretary at the Sears Warehouse on Brooklyn Ave. in Fort Wayne until her retirement. She is also survived by a daughter and son in-law, Lani and Richard Thorn of Land O Lakes; a granddaughter, Kristi Taylor of Louisville, KY; a grandson, Todd Schlichter of Los Angeles, CA; two great granddaughters, Janice Taylor of Louisville and Kenley Schlichter of Los Angeles and a brother, Gerald Swander of Utah. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Wilbur Swander Jr.; and five sisters, Winifred Peters, Beverly Parker, June Swander, Marcill Swander and Garnet Dirr. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 4, 2012 at 11:30 a.m., with visitation starting at 11 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Garrett. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn.
