George "Wayne" Dancer of Leo, Indiana November 13, 1921 - April 26, 2016 George "Wayne" Dancer age 94 of Leo, IN died Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at The Cedars - Leo, IN. He was born November 13, 1921 in Fremont, IN to George William and Alice Lucy (Shaffer) Dancer and they preceded him in death. He married Lenore A. Shanebeck on May 10, 1942 in Woodburn, IN and she died November 6, 2015. Wayne worked as an engineer on the Pennsylvania /Conrail Railroad for 41 years, retiring December 6, 1980. He was a WW II Army veteran and was on Omaha Beach. He served in both the European and Pacific Theaters of the war. He was a member of the Avilla American Legion. Wayne is survived by 4 sons: Roger (Virginia) Dancer, Avilla, IN; Jeffrey (Debra) Dancer, Walled Lake, MI; Timothy (Catherine) Dancer, Swanton, OH; Matthew (Deanna) Dancer, Tok, AK and a daughter: Kristie (Michael) Prater, Rome City, IN. He is survived by 12 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife: Lenore A. Dancer; parents: George William and Alice Lucy Dancer and a sister: Mildred Gerig. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2016 at Thomas Funeral Home, 1277 C.R. 56, Garrett, IN 46738 and 1 hour prior to services Saturday at the church. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the First Baptist Church - Garrett, IN with Rev. David Mix officiating. Burial will take place in Roselawn Cemetery - Auburn, IN with military graveside honors by the American Legion and the United States Army Memorials are to the American Diabetes Association.
