Obituary

Harold Ernest Johnson, age 85 of Garrett, died on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. He was born August 27, 1927 in DeKalb County to the late Byron and Malinda (Mann) Johnson. He married Charles "Charlie" Lee Yeary on October 24, 1953 in Waterloo and she survives in Garrett. Harold had been a parts salesman at Classic City Auto "Napa" in Auburn. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn and the Garrett American Legion. He loved to camp, was an avid fisherman and he did not know a stranger and was everyone's beloved friend. Also surviving are 3 daughters, Jolene Murphy of Garrett, Malinda (Kurt) Meyer of Garrett and SuLynn (Randy) Priest of Montpelier, OH; 10 grandchildren, Samuel (Angie) Hippensteel, LeeAnne (Rob) Woodward, Jennifer Murphy, Logan, Ryan and Brooke Meyer, Jason (DiAnn) Smith, Kelly (Tim) Head, Mendy (JR) Treace and Randy (Kristin) Priest Jr., 10 great grandchildren, a sister, Thelma Acker of Auburn and his beloved dog, Satchel. He was also preceded in death by a son, Allan Johnson and 9 brothers and sisters. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn with Rev. Jonathan Nack officiating. A military graveside service will follow in Waterloo Cemetery in Waterloo. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 14, 2012 from 2-8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Garrett and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are to Trinity Lutheran Church or Memory Care Unit at Betz Nursing Home
