Harry Gilbert Jr. age 85 of Garrett, IN died at 11:20 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2011 at DeKalb Health in Auburn, IN. He was born July 12, 1926 in Auburn, IN to Harry and Anna (Daltry) Gilbert Sr. and they preceded him in death. He married Carolyn J. Huffman on February 16, 1963 in Ohio and she survives in Garrett. Harry was a tool maker at Warner Gear in Auburn for 31 years, retiring in 1977. He was a WW II Army Veteran. He was a member of the Cross Point Family Church of the Nazarene in Kendallville, IN. and the National Riffle Association. Harry is survived by his wife: Carolyn J. Gilbert, Garrett, IN; 2 daughters: Wanda Gilbert and Carole (John) Petre, Auburn, IN. 1 son survives: Jim (Cheryl) Gilbert, Corunna, IN along with 2 sisters: Gloria Gilbert, Ft. Wayne, IN and Dolores Combs, KY. Harry has 2 granddaughters: Amanda (Neil) Woodruff, Roanoke, IN and Rachelle Gilbert, Boston, MA. A great grandson: Connor Woodruff lives in Roanoke, IN. Harry was preceded in death by his parents: Harry and Anna Gilbert Sr.; a son: David Gilbert; a grandson: Ryan Gilbert. 2 brothers also preceded him in death: Robert and Paul Gilbert. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, September 19, 2011 at Thomas Funeral Home - Garrett, IN. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Thomas Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Secor officiating. Burial will follow in Christian Union Cemetery - Garrett, IN with military honors by the Garrett American Legion and VFW. Memorials are to the DeKalb Council on Pregnancy or the Cross Point Family Church of the Nazarene - Kendallville, IN.
