Howard E. Wiley, 89 of Garrett, died on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at his home. He was born February 23, 1924 in DeKalb County to the late James and Alta (Gump) Wiley. He married Lorene A. Steiner on March 5, 1947 in Allen County and she survives in Garrett. Howard worked in the rubber industry in Garrett, retiring in 1986. He also served as a volunteer Fire Fighter for the Garrett Fire Department for 11 years. Howard was a WWII US Army veteran having served in the European Theater of Operations. Also surviving are two sons, Dr. James Wiley of Scottsdale, AZ and Samuel (Nita) Wiley of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; daughter, Terri Wiley of Fort Wayne; two granddaughters, Capt. Rachel Wiley, USAF (Joe Liddy) and Amanda (Thomas) Hedler and three great grandchildren, Emma Grace, Alyssa and Luke Thomas Hedler. Howard was also preceded in death by two brothers, Orville and Ray Wiley and two sisters, Ruth Griffin and Martha Stimman. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, 1277 C.R. 56, Garrett with Pastor Shaun Dufault of the Auburn Alliance Church officiating. Military graveside honors by the US Army, Garrett American Legion and VFW will follow in Leo Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 12, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are to the Christian and Missionary Alliance Great Commission Fund or Child Evangelism Fellowship.
