He was born November 23, 1927 in Auburn, IN to Lester and Agnes E. (Hosack) Smurr. He married Betty J. Roush on September12, 1952 in Auburn, IN and she died December 5, 2009. Jack was a repairman at International Harvester for 23 years, retiring in 1983. He was a veteran of the Merchant Marine and was a WW II - U.S. Army veteran. Jack was a member of the Garrett American Legion and VFW Jack is survived by a son: Jack R. (Renee) Smurr Sr., Garrett, IN; Brother: John Smurr, Garrett, IN; 2 grandchildren: Jack R. (Ashlie) Smurr Jr, Garrett, IN; Candace (Bryan) Lewis, Garrett, IN; and 3 great grandchildren: Ty Smurr, Blake Lewis, and Logan Lewis Garrett, IN He was preceded in death by his parents: Lester and Agnes E. Smurr; wife: Betty J. Smurr; son and daughter in-law: Dirk (Susan) Smurr; 2 brothers: William H. Smurr, Jim Smurr and sister: Betty Terrell. Visitation will take place from 10-11 a.m., March 10, 2015 at Thomas Funeral Home, 1277 C.R. 56, Garrett, IN. Services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Thomas Funeral Home with Brother Bud Owen officiating. Military graveside services by the United States Army, Garrett American Legion and VFW will follow in Christian Union Cemetery – Garrett, IN Memorials are to DeKalb County Humane Shelter.
