Joan Kelham age 89 of Avilla, IN died Monday, February 22, 2010 at Betz Nursing Home - Auburn, IN. Joan was born January 25, 1921 in Avilla, IN to Freeman and Gertrude (Weller) Kelham. She earned her Masters Degree in Music Education from Northwestern University. She was a music teacher at Fort Wayne Community Schools for 30 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Garrett United Methodist Church, Zeta Tau Alpha and Delta Kappa Gamma Sororities, Arts Advocates at IPFW, Bar Street Irregulars and Fort Wayne Philharmonis volunteer. She is survived by several cousins including: Marjorie Saxer, Garrett, IN; Steve and Kathy Kelham; Barron, Becky and Olivia Thomas; Tracy, Holly, Warren and Katelyn Joseph; Steven, Sara,Addison and Trey Kelham all of Avilla, IN. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, with Dr. Scott Shoaff officiatin. Burial will follow in Christian Union Cemetery, Garrett, IN. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 from 4-8 p.m. and 1 hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials are to the I.P.F.W Music Department.
