John Gillespie age 86 of Auburn, IN died Monday, December 2, 2013 at Betz Nursing Home in Auburn, IN. John was born May 10, 1927 in Auburn, IN to Eber A. and Valaria G. (Blevins) Gillespie and they preceded him in death. He married Vivian Custer on July 27, 1947 in Garrett, IN and she survives in Auburn, IN. He was a former Avilla resident for 30 years. John worked on the assembly line at International Harvester, retiring in 1983. He also worked for the Penn Central Railroad as a conductor for 10 years, while working at International Harvester. He was a member of the Garrett American Legion, Garrett Eagles and the UAW. He was a member of the Auburn Nazarene Church. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. John is survived by his wife: Vivian Gillespie, Auburn, IN; 3 sons: Mike (Renee) Gillespie, Auburn, IN; Jeff Gillespie, Auburn, IN and Steven Gillespie. John is survived by 7 Grandchildren, 4 Great Grandchildren, 2 Brothers: Clarence Gillespie, Twain Harte, CA; Richard "Bud" Gillespie, Dandridge, TN and 3 sisters: June Bauer, Clearwater, FL; Marilyn Evans, Van Buren, AR and Sandy Winebrenner, Pine, AZ. John was preceded in death by his parents: Eber A. ad Valaria G. Gillespie, 2 brothers: George Gillespie and Paul Gillespie, 2 sisters: Pauline Stevens and Phyllis Deal. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Friday, December 6, 2013 at Thomas Funeral Home with Pastor Dan White officiating. There will be no calling for Mr. Gillespie. Burial will follow in Cedar Creek Cemetery - Garrett, IN with military graveside honors by the Garret American Legion and VFW. Memorials are to the Auburn Nazarene Church
