Joseph Cass Hardenbrook June 8, 1948 - May 25, 2012 Joseph Cass Hardenbrook age 63 of Garrett, IN died Friday, May 25, 2012 at his home after a 7 month battle with brain cancer. Joseph was born June 8, 1948 in Auburn, IN to Alan C. and Janice (Cass) Hardenbrook and they preceded him in death. He was a graduate of the Auburn Class of 1966. He married Susan J. Placencia on June 24, 1978 in Garrett, IN. Joseph worked as a shipping clerk at Eaton - Auburn, IN for 34 years, retiring in 2007. Joseph was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church - Garrett, IN; Knights of Columbus Council #1790; Garrett American Legion Post 178; a lifetime member of VFW #1892 and the Garrett Eagles. He was a member of the National Fishing Lure Collectors Club, a retired member of UAW #164 and delivered meals for St. Martin's Soup Kitchen. Joe loved Notre Dame Football, was an avid fisherman, mushroom hunter and enjoyed life - telling or hearing a good joke. Joseph was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War - serving his country for 4 years. Joseph is survived by his wife: Sue Hardenbrook, Garrett, IN and a son: Joe Hardenbrook, Appleton, WI. He is also survived by a brother: Daniel Hardenbrook, Long Beach, CA. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, a brother: John "Mark" Hardenbrook and a sister: Sandra Van Bergen. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church - Garrett, IN., officiating will be Fr. Andrew Nazareth and burial will follow in Christian Union Cemetery, Garrett, IN. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Garrett America Legion, VFW and the U.S. Navy. Visitation will take place from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Thomas Funeral Home - Garrett, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to St. Martin's Soup Kitchen, Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home or Masses.
