GARRETT — Judith Kay (Hamilton) Getts, 84, of Garrett, passed away at Astral of Auburn on Monday, June 3, 2024.  Judy was born Sept. 14, 1939, to Mahlon and Phyllis Hamilton and grew up in Auburn. She married Larry Getts Sr., on June 29, 1958.  After Larry's schooling in New Orleans and a brief stint in Indianapolis, they moved to Garrett in 1972.

Judy worked locally at the Garrett State Bank and then the telephone company for the next 20 years.  After leaving the phone company, she worked at the Auburn Wal-Mart in the Lawn and Garden department for another 20 years.  She loved working and helping people find what they needed.  Judy's real pride and joy was her family.  With three children and 15 grandchildren, you could always find her at any event her kids or grandkids were participating in.  She loved going to cheer them on.  Her nickname "Gettsie" came from the countless kids she cheered for as she attended her grandkids' games.  Judy's other love was for God and her Church.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Auburn.  She loved attending services, going to her Sunday School class, and attending Wednesday morning Bible study.

Survivors include her children, Larry (Tasha) Getts Jr. of Garrett, Steve (Shalon) Getts of Corunna, and Sue (Todd) Austin of Fort Wayne.  Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Jayne Challand of Florida, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry, and her parents.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Friday at Thomas Funeral Home, 1277 C.R. 56, Garrett, with visitation one hour prior to service.  Burial will follow at Christian Union Cemetery, Garrett.

Visitation will also be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
