Loren Edwin Heinlen Sr., age 92, died at his home in Mansfield, Ohio on Monday, February 12, 2018.
Mr. Heinlen was born in Garrett, Indiana on August 8, 1925 to Jerome and Rhodine Heinlen. He was a graduate of Garrett High School where he was active in sports. Loren served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific theater. Upon returning home he attended Tri-State University, graduating with a business degree. During his lifetime, he worked for the B&O Railroad and in management at International Harvester. He was an avid fisherman and especially enjoyed gardening.
On February 12, 1952 he married Bette Lou Wogoman of Kendallville, Indiana. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Avilla. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bette, of 51 years, his parents and two brothers, Jerome and Robert Heinlen.
He is survived by his life companion, Beverly McPherson of Mansfield, Ohio, who was by his side at his passing and his sister, Marilyn Smith of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He is also survived by four children: Son, Loren Jr. (Valerie) Heinlen of LaGrange. Daughter, Kim (Tom) Pippenger of Fort Wayne.
Daughter, Kari (Mike) Bianski of Kendallville. Daughter, Lori (Tracy) Cooper of Albion. Grandchildren:
Lucas (Missy) Heinlen of Muncie.
Emily (Tim) Davis of Martinsville.
Joel (Melinda) Pippenger of Kendallville.
Carmen (Brad) Langhorst of Indianapolis.
Megan (Adam) Nesbitt of Fort Wayne.
Anna Lytle (fiancé Caleb McCollough) of Fort Wayne.
Amanda (Diante) Thomas of Chicago, Illinois.
Courtney (Patrick) Honeycutt of Indianapolis.

Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Monday, February 19, 2018 at Thomas Funeral Home, 1277 C.R. 56, Garrett, IN, with Pastor Jan Dimick officiating. Visitation 1 hour prior to services. Burial will take place in Christian Union Cemetery near Garrett, Indiana, with military honors by the United States Navy.
