Louis F. Hyde age 96 of Garrett, IN died Monday, February 17, 2014 at Presence Sacred Heart Home in Avilla, IN. He was born August 13, 1917 in Garrett, IN to Walter L. and Anna M. (Byanskie) Hyde. He married Helen A. Iannetti on January 11, 1944 in Bronx, NY and she died May 5, 2005. Louis worked as a maintenance supervisor at VA Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN for 30 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Garrett, IN; Garrett American Legion and the Garrett Eagles. He was a Navy veteran during WW II. Louis is survived by 2 daughters: Margaret R. Hyde, Ft. Wayne, IN and Patricia (Jim) Duguid, Huntington, IN; 1 son: Joseph (Lori) Hyde, Corunna, IN. He is also survived by a daughter In-law: Kathleen Hyde, Garrett, IN; son In-law: Tod Kovara, Ft. Wayne, IN; 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 2 step Grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; brother In-law: Norbert Muzzillo, FL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife: Helen A. Hyde; parents: Walter L. and Anna M. Hyde; daughter: Judy Kovara; son: Richard Hyde and 2 sisters: Catherine E. Hertzfeld and Mary Helen DeWitt Visitation will take place on Thursday, February 20, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, 1277 C.R. 56, Garrett. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Garrett, with Fr. Andrew Nazareth officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Garrett, with military graveside services by the U.S. Navy, Garrett American Legion and VFW. Memorials are to St. Joseph Catholic School or Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home.
