Obituary

Marilyn E. Smith age 70 of Garrett died at 6:08 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2009 at Select Care Specialty Hospital - Fort wayne, IN. She was born May 14, 1939 in Fort Wayne to Clarence "Bob" and LaVon (baum) Rodey and they preceded her in death. Marilyn Married Kenneth F. Smith on August 7, 1965 in Fort Wayne, IN and he survives. She was the office manager at Hamilton Family Medical Center in Hamilton, IN for the past 6 years. She was a graduate of Stephens College in Columbia, MO and Indiana University. She had a Masters Degree in Education. She taught 2nd grade at Slocum Elementary School. She was president of the junior division of the Fort Wayne Womens Club and was the current president of the Phi Mu Fraternity - Fort Wayne Chapter. She owned The Wedding Place in Fort Wayne for 17 years and presented the Classic City Charity Horse Show in Auburn, I for 10 years. Marilyn owned and raised American Saddlebreds and was a member of the American Saddlebred Association. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Covenant - Fort Wayne. Survived by: Husband - Kenneth F. Smith, Garrett, IN Daughter - Teresa L. Smith M.D., Angola, IN She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother: Robert Rodey. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at Thomas Funeral Home - Garrett, IN with the funeral service to follow at 1 p.m.. Officiating will be Rev. Thomas Sagendorf. A private burial will take place in Lindenwood Cemetery - Fort Wayne, IN. Memorials are to the Faith Community Health Clinic, P.O. Box 972, Angola, IN 46703.
