Mary Ruth "Chub" Clark age 82 of Garrett, IN died at 7:35 p.m. Sunday, January 23, 2011 at Lutheran Hospital - Ft. Wayne, IN. She was born May 27, 1928 in Garrett to the late Don E. and Alice H. (Harsh) Van Fleit. Chub married Earl D. Clark on September 18, 1948 in Garrett. She worked as an office manager at the Garrett Telephone Company for over 35 years before it became GTE. Chub enjoyed her large family gatherings, Purdue basketball, needlepoint, singing in the church choir, and is famous for her homemade applesauce. She was a member of the Grabill Missionary Church and acted as trustee for the Garrett United Methodist Church's scholarship fund for future pastors. She is survived by her husband: Earl D. Clark, Garrett, IN and their children. Her daughter: Mary Kay Clark, Yellow Springs, OH and 3 sons: Dave (Robbie) Clark, Brownsburg, IN; Dan (Laurie) Clark, West Lafayette, IN and Jack (Leslie) Clark, Leo, IN. She is survived by her sister: A. Katharine "Kate" Kleeman, Garrett, IN; 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents: Don E. and Alice H. Van Fleit, sons: Jimmy and Bruce Clark; 2 brothers: Dr. William Van Fleit and James Herzer; and 2 sisters: Betty Gordon and Barbara Painter. Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. - 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at Thomas Funeral Home - Garrett, IN. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Thomas Funeral Home with Pastor William Lepley officiating. Burial will follow in Christian Union Cemetery, Garrett, IN. Memorials are to the Grabill Missionary Church.
