Mary Jean Custer, age 83, died on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Wesley Healthcare in Auburn, IN. She was born December 10, 1925 in Garrett, IN to Carl E. and Beryl E. (Davis) Bonnett. She had worked at Electric Motors in Garrett and Kraft Foods in Kendallville, IN before becoming the secretary to the mayor of Garrett for 14 years, before retiring in 1991. She was a member of the Living Waters Community Church in Garrett. Mary Jean is survived by a son, Brian and Holly Custer of Garrett; a brother, Paul Bonnett of Fort Wayne, IN; a sister, Judith Becker of Fort Wayne; granddaughter, Shannon and Joe Day of Garrett; grandson, Shane and Maria Custer of Garrett; granddaughter, Ivy and Kevin Merriman of Huntertown, IN and granddaughter, Angela Custer, serving in the U.S. Air Force in Turkey. Also surviving is a great grandson, Aiden Custer of Garrett; great granddaughters, Alicia and Marissa Merriman of Huntertown and great grandsons, Clint and Douglas Merriman of Huntertown. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Bruce Custer and a sister, Shirley Bonnett. There will be no calling. A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 7 at 11 a.m. in Christian Union Cemetery in Garrett. Rev. H. Dean Morris will officiate.
