Mary L. Leach, age 92 of Garrett and formerly of Kalkaska, MI, died on Friday, February 21, 2014 at Miller's Merry Manor in Garett. She was born March 25, 1921 in Mancelona, MI to the late Nora Lakies. She married Carl N. Leach on April 5, 1940 in Toledo, OH and he died in August of 1987. They had owned The Shanty Restaurant and Carl's Sales and Service in Kalkaska, MI. She was a member of Peoples Church of Kalkaska, The Red Hat Society, Charter member of Kalkaska Hospital Auxiliary, Kalkaska Snow Packers Club, Kalkaska Chamber of Commerce and Trout Festival Board. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Jo Mix of Garrett and three sons, Bob Leach of Brattleboro, VT, Allen Leach of Kalkaska, MI and Dennis Leach of Williamsburg, MI; a brother, Bud Ogden of Texas; a sister, Shirley Holcomb of Battle Creek, MI; 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Profitt. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 2 at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Garrett, with calling 1 hour prior. Rev. David Mix will officiate. Memorials are to the First Baptist Church.
