Obituary

Melvin Pepple Anderson, 83, of Waterloo, IN died at 9 p.m., Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at the Laurel's of DeKalb in Butler, IN after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Melvin was born on September 9, 1924 in Muskegon, MI to Henry and Elsie (Clayton) Anderson. In 1928 his mother passed away and at age 12 Melvin was taken in by foster parents Jerry and Luella Pepple of Garrett, IN. Melvin attended Garrett High School. He enlisted in the Navy Reserves and received an honorable discharge after 6 years of service during WW II. Melvin married Helen Pankop Henderson in 1959 and she died on May 30, 1980. His passions were playing the Harmonica, fishing and attending ice cream socials in the area. Melvin's jobs included being a machinist for the B & O Railroad, driving semi and hauling Studebakers in the 1950's in South Bend, IN. He also hauled travel trailers for Fan Coach in LaGrange, IN. He was a member of the Cedar Lake Church of the Brethren in Corunna, IN and attended New Hope Church in Waterloo, IN. His family wishes to thank the nurse aides, housekeeping and administration staff at the Laurel's of DeKalb for their support throughout Melvin's time there. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 25, 2008 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the Cedar Lake Church of the Brethren in Corunna, IN at 11 a.m. with Pastor Paul Stauffer officiating. Burial will follow in Waterloo Cemetery. Memorials are to the chruch food bank or the Alzheimer's Foundation. Survivors include: Son - James and Barbara Anderson of Waterloo, IN Grandson - James Anderson II of Waterloo, IN Grandson - Timothy Anderson of Waterloo, IN Foster Brother - Harold Pepple of Corunna, IN 2 Step Daughters Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins Preceded in death by: Parents, Wife, Step Son, Sisters -Doris, Erma and Ruth and a Brother - Jim Anderson
