Melvin Smith of Garrett, Indiana June 23, 1923 - May 18, 2015 Melvin Smith "Smitty" age 91 of Garrett, IN died Monday, May 18, 2015 at DeKalb Health - Auburn, IN. He was born June 23, 1923 in Noble County, IN to Arly and Eva (Bosler) Smith. Melvin married Eleanor Provines on April 1, 1945 in Auburn, IN. He was a dairy farmer and drove school bus for Garrett- Keyser -Butler Schools for over 50 years. He was a member of the Altar Star United Methodist Church and Farm Bureau. He was a board member and past president of Allen Dairy - Fort Wayne, IN. He was involved in tractor pulling in the 1950's, winning numerous area and state awards with his John Deere 60 tractor. Melvin is survived by his wife: Eleanor Smith, daughter: Marilyn Smith, son: Wayne (Deborah) Smith and a grandson: Brian J. Smith all of Garrett, IN Melvin was preceded in death by his parents: Arly and Eva Smith, and 2 sisters: Gladys Gift and Leah M. Johnson. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2015 at Thomas Funeral Home, 1277 C.R. 56, Garrett, IN Services will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Thomas Funeral Home with Pastor Linda Springstead officiating.
