Nancy Rebekah Panning "The Cricket Lady", age 76, died on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home in Garrett. She was born March 21, 1935 in Auburn to R.D. and Eunice (Rufner) Parker. She along with her former husband, Jack Panning, operated Pannings Crickets, Bait & Tackle Shop in Garrett for over 20 years. She was a homemaker and mother to 6 children, Lyn Grogg of Fremont, Todd (Renee) Panning of Garrett and Tonia (Andy) Baker of Avilla. A grandmother to 9 grandchildren, Stacey Grogg Williamson of Tampa, FL, Amanda Fehmann of Fort Wayne, Chad Baker of Fort Wayne, Jessica Baker of Avilla, Kyle Baker of Avilla, Sarah Baker Coe of Avilla, Amber Panning Dock of LaOtto and Chrystal and Ashley Panning of Garrett. She was a great grandmother to 17 and a great great grandmother to 2. Also surviving are 3 sisters, Frankie Bennet of Largo, FL, Donna Benner of Garrett and Bobbie Hicks of Kendallville. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, R.D. Parker and Eunice Moses; a son Nate Panning; two infants Johnny Lee and Angela Gale Panning; a sister Dottie Perry and a brother Fayette Parker. The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, 1277 C.R. 56. Burial will follow in Christian Union Cemetery in Garrett.
