Obituary

Neil A. Prentice, age 86 of St. Joe, IN died at 2:15 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2009 at DeKalb Memorial Hospital in Auburn, IN. He was born January 29, 1922 in Fairfield Township (Corunna) to Marvin A. and Alma A. (Ewell) Prentice. He married Doris E. Rossow on January 15, 1947 in Detroit, MI and she died December 12, 2004. Neil was a WWII Army veteran serving in the Infantry from 1942-1946. He was a farmer all his life and worked for the DeKalb County Highway Department mowing the county roads during the summers. He was formerly on the Concord Township Advisory Board. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Garrett, IN. He is survived by 4 sons: Michael and Kathleen Prentice of Kendallville, IN; Lowell and Sheryl Prentice of Ashley, IN; Leonard and Janet Prentice of Arab, AL; and Roger and Jennifer Prentice of St. Joe, IN. He is survived by 2 daughters: Marlene and Gary Carpenter of Fort Wayne, IN and Carol and David Mansfield of Fort Wayne, IN. He is also survived by 14 Grandchildren, 3 Step Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren and 3 Step Great Grandchildren. A brother Wallace Prentice of Kendallville, IN and a sister Leona Becker of Kendallville, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brother Ralph Prentice. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Thomas Funeral Home. Services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2009 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Garrett, with calling 1 hour prior to services at church. Officiating will be Pastor Jeffrey Horn and burial will follow in Fairfield Cemetery in Corunna, IN. Memorials may be given to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Garrett, IN.
