Norbert L. Deuitch, 93, of Garrett, died on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Betz Nursing Home in Auburn. He was born February 3, 1916 in Garrett to Henry and Mary Loretta (Long) Deuitch. He married Lois E. Burtch on October 8, 1937 in Garrett and she died March 6, 2001. Norbert was a Conductor on the B&O Railroad for over 30 years. He was a member of the First Church of Christ in Garrett and the Garrett Eagles. He volunteered at the Garrett Recycling Center and RSVP. He was a past recipient of the Garrett Citizen of the Year Award. He took great pride in raising 2 of his grandsons, Dustin and Scott Deuitch. He is survived by a son, Nelson Deuitch of Toronto, Canada; 10 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Vicki Clabaugh; son, Norman Deuitch; 8 brothers; John, Richard, Robert, Carl, Walter, Donald, Bernard and Jack Deuitch and a sister, Anna Katherine Nichols. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to the service. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Andy Deuitch officiating. Burial will follow in Christian Union Cemetery in Garrett. Memorials are to the First Church of Christ in Garrett or St. Martin's Health Care.
