Norma Jean Sechler age 79 of Garrett, IN died at 12:25 p.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Lutheran Hospital – Ft. Wayne, IN. Norma was born December 20, 1938 in Auburn, IN to Walter E. and Girlean Edna (Shields) Mowrey and they preceded her in death. She married Richard L. Sechler on June 14, 1958 in Garrett, IN.

Norma was the church secretary at St. Joseph Catholic Church – Garrett, IN from 1987-2004.

She was a Soup Kitchen. member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rosary Society, St. Martin's Clothes Closet and St. Martin's

Norma is survived by her husband: Richard L. Sechler, Garrett, IN; daughter: Trisha (Terry) Miller, Auburn, IN; 5 grandchildren; Denver Miller, Waterloo, IN; Mac Surfus, Garrett, IN; Ashley Miller, Garrett, IN; Abigale Surfus, Garrett, IN; Tanner Surfus, Garrett, IN and 2 great grandchildren: Lauren and Delaney Miller, Waterloo, IN.

She was preceded in death by a daughter: Tonyua Surfus; parents: Walter E. and Girlean Edna Mowrey; sister: Virginia Williams; brother: Venis C. Mowrey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church – Garrett, IN with Fr. Gary Sigler and Fr. Jim Shafer officiating. Calling will take place from 9-10 a.m. at the church.

Visitation will take place from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home, 1277 C.R. 56, Garrett, IN. A rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m.

Burial will take place in Christian Union Cemetery – Garrett, IN
