Obituary

R. Gene Snook, age 80 of Garrett, died on Sunday, December 5, 2010 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. He was born July 31, 1930 in Deshler, OH to Rodney Don and Audrey (Crawford) Snook. He was a Korean War Veteran having served in the US Army. He married Helen M. Eck on August 7, 1973 in Ste Sault Marie, MI. He was a Garrett Police Officer from 1953-1973 and a DeKalb County Police Officer from 1973-1995. He was also a driver for PTI from 2003-2005. He was a member of the Butler American Legion Post 202, Garrett Eagles, DEKAT Camping Club and Wee Campers Camping Club. He is survived by his wife, Helen Snook of Garrett; 3 daughters and sons in-law, Tonnie (Richard) Karle of Scottsdale, AZ; Debra (Dean) Putt of Albuquerque, NM and Vicki (Ron) Rathburn of Butler. 3 sons, Larry Treesh and FiancAC. Brenda Carpenter of Topeka; Jacob (Renee) Snook of Ashley and Loren Snook of Garrett; brother, Gerry Snook of Garrett and sister, Winifred McMillan of Garrett; 10 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Eugene Snook. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, with Jerry Custer officiating. Entombment will take place in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home.
