Obituary

Rebekah B. Pfierman age 102 passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Rebekah was born May 28, 1922 in Columbia City, IN to Perl K. and Blanche E. (Knight) Lawrence.

She married Floyd Isiah Pfierman on October 6, 1940 in Harlan, IN and he passed away on July 5, 2010. She was a Garrett resident since January 1954.

Rebekah was a homemaker, loved to garden and can her vegetables, was an excellent seamstress, Sunday school teacher, and youth leader. She taught us how to work hard and care for others. She was a fantastic cook and was known for her yeast bread and crescent rolls. She was a longtime member of Cedar Creek Church of the Brethren, DeKalb County Farm Bureau and a former 4-H leader.

She never stopped raising and caring for children, especially her grandchildren. She loved taking care of her grand and great grandchildren and she did it well.

She was very involved as a band parent for the Garrett Railroaders band. She had two daughters, one granddaughter and two great granddaughters that were members of the band.

Her brother Dale and Joyce Lawrence are still living on the family farm in Whitley County.

Rebekah is survived by 4 daughters: Sharon Bashore, Apache Junction, AZ; Sandra (John) Heitz, Kendallville, IN; Linda Pfierman, Garrett, IN; Joyce Crain, Garrett, IN; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren;  brother: Dale (Joyce) Lawrence, Columbia City, IN.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Perl K. and Blanche E. Lawrence; husband: Floyd I. Pfierman; son in-laws: John Crain; Jim Bashore; grandson: Joshua Crain; sister: Ruth (Bob) Shultz.

Services will take place at Noon on Monday, March 24, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home, 1277 C.R. 56, Garrett, IN. with Pastor Brad Hardesty  officiating.

Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. – Noon prior to the funeral service.

Burial will take place in Embrey Cemetery – rural Garrett.

Memorials are to: Garrett High School - Garrett Railroad Regiment Band, American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
