Robert (Bob) Joseph Vachon Jr., 88, beloved brother, father, grandfather and great-grand father died September 7, 2011, at 3:20 A.M. at Miller's Merry Manor in Garrett, Indiana. Bob was born to Robert and Maude (Shaffer) Vachon on July 16, 1923, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Bob has two siblings, Marilyn Vachon and Richard (Dick) Vachon who both currently live in Fort Wayne. Bob was married to Lois E. (Weaver) Vachon on September 6, 1949, and resided with his wife and 4 children in Fort Wayne, Indiana. After retirement from the Fort Wayne Community Schools where he taught from 1953 - 1986, Bob and Lois lived in their home on Crooked Lake in Angola, Indiana where Bob pursued his hobbies of reading, fishing, attending automobile events and spoiling his grandchildren. Bob was an army veteran of WW II and a graduate of Northside High School in Fort Wayne, and Indiana University, holding undergraduate degrees in business and education and a masters in education. During his career, he taught at Forest Park Elementary, Lakeside Junior High School and R. Nelson Snider High School. Surviving are: sister, Marilyn Vachon, Fort Wayne; brother Richard (Donna) Vachon, Fort Wayne; daughter, Denise Vachon (Harry) Kaufman, Atlanta, Ga; sons, Douglas (Dwana) Vachon, Atlanta, Ga; Matthew (Brenda) Vachon Edinburgh, In; Kirk (Mary) Vachon, Garrett, In; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Visitation is 3-7 pm on Friday, September 9, 2011, at the Thomas Funeral Home in Garrett , Indiana, with a rosary said at 7:00 pm. Mass will be heard at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 10, 2011, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Garrett, In. Burial will take place at Circle Hill Cemetery in Angola, In at a later date. Memorials are to the St. Joseph Catholic Church or the American Red Cross.
