Roger D. Greaf, 91 of Garrett, died on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home in Garrett. He was born October 30, 1919 in Jay County, IN near the area of Fairview in Wayne Township to the late Russell E. and Anna (Knab) Greaf. He attended the Fairview grade school and graduated from Portland High School. He entered the U.S. Air Corps on February 12, 1942 and served until the end of World War II. Roger was an engineer at Siecor Corp and Corning until his retirement in 1986. He was a Lay Minister with the United Methodist Church for 41 years and a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years. He was a member of the Garrett United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge #537 in Garrett, Scottish Rite in Fort Wayne and North Indiana UMC Foundation Field Representative. He married Ila Warner on April 16, 1993 and she survives in Garrett. Also surviving are his sons; Dr. William D. Greaf of Stony Brook, NY and Steven D. Greaf (Lt. Colonel - USAR, Ret.) of Parkersburg, WV; step sons, Dr. Barry McNamara and Dr. Craig McNamara of Montgomery, AL, Dr. Tom Newbauer of Avon, IN and Joe Newbauer of MI; step daughters, Karen Jo Renner of Ft. Wayne and Marilyn Culler of Garrett; a brother, Paul E. Greaf of South Bend, IN; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Catherine Armantrout Greaf on July 4, 1987 and a brother, Harold Greaf. The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 24, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Garrett United Methodist Church and at 3:00 p.m. at the Green Park Cemetery Chapel in Portland, IN with Dr. Scott Shoaff officiating. Burial will follow in Green Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home 1277 C.R. 56, Garrett and on Monday at the church from 10-11 a.m. A Masonic service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
