Ronald Lee Kearns, 62 of Garrett, died on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at his brother's home in LaOtto. He was born February 11, 1949 in Fort Wayne to Karl K. and Phyllis C. (Traxler) Kearns. He married Mary "Leadesia" Sommers on March 1, 1995 and she died on December 27, 1999. He retired from the US Army in 1988 as a Staff Sergeant and then worked at Momentive Performance Metals in Garrett for 11 years. Ronald was a member of the First Baptist Church in Garrett and the Garrett American Legion & VFW. He is survived by his mother, Phyllis Kearns of LaOtto; son, Christopher and Cory Kearns of Furlong, PA; daughter, Michelle and Nick Handshoe of Garrett; brother, Karl K. and Dawn Kearns Jr. of LaOtto; sisters, Karen and Booth Elliott of LaOtto and Diane and William Robb of Fort Wayne and 5 grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his father. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Garrett with Rev. David Mix officiating. A military graveside service will follow in Christian Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 28, 2011 from 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, 1277 C.R. 56 Garrett.
