Ronald E. Weimer age 70 and a lifetime Garrett resident died at 8:27 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009 at his home. He was born December 21, 1938 in Avilla, IN to Howard W. and Margaret S. (Erdly) Weimer. He married Nancy Lou Ely on August 25, 1962 in Garrett, IN and she survives in Garrett, IN. He was a graduate of Garrett High School and a 1961 graduate of Manchester College where he played footballl and ran track. He later received his Masters degree from St. Francis University. Ronald was an educator for 36 years, retiring in July 1997. He taught at the DeKalb Central Schools for 18 years and Garrett-Keyser-Butler Schools for 18 years. He was a Garrett-Keyser-Butler School Board member for the past 3 years. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Garrett and an Order of the Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts.and participated in the Wednesday Night Golf League at the Garrett Country Club. After his retirement from teaching, Ronald worked part-time at Thomas Funeral Home in Garrett, IN. Survivors include: Wife - Nancy Lou (Ely) Weimer, Garrett, IN Son - David W. and Pam Weimer, Fort Wayne, IN Son - Dr. Dan E. and Barbara Weimer, Garrett, IN Son - Dean R. Weimer, Garrett, IN 8 Grandchildren Sister - Betty Hill, Deshler, OH Sister - Sally Porter, Garrett, IN Preceded in death by: Parents Son - Dennis Lee Weimer Brother - Robert Weimer Brother - Roger Weimer Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Thomas Funeral Home - Garrett, IN A service celebrating his years as an educator will begin at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2009 at the Garrett High School Performing Arts Center, witha traditional funeral service to follow. Officiating will be Pastor Jeffrey Horn, with burial to follow in Christian Union Cemetery - Garrett, IN. Memorials are to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Garrett Middle School Athletic Department.
