Ruby M. Sherwood age 82 of Indianapolis, IN and formerly of Garrett, IN died Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Methodist Hospital - Indianapolis, IN. She was born September 6, 1930 in Whittenburg, MO to Charles E. and Mary E. (Higgins) Berry. She married William H. Sherwood on April 17, 1947 in Cape Girardeau, MO and he died September 9, 2004. Ruby was an assembler at the Auburn Rubber Company for 9 years, retiring in 1959. She was a member of the Garrett American Legion Auxiliary, Trinity Lutheran Church - Auburn, IN and St. John Lutheran Church - Indianapolis, IN. Ruby is survived by a daughter and a son: Nyla (Joseph) Kelley, Victoria, TX and William L. (Dana) Sherwood, Indianapolis, IN. She is survived by her 3 grandsons: Zachary, Jared and Jacob along with many nieces and nephews. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband: William H. Sherwood, parents: Charles E. and Mary E. Berry; 4 brothers: Frank, Charles, Clarence and Harold Berry and 2 sisters: Katheryn Jackson and Estelle Ford She was known for her beautiful blue eyes, red polished nails, spunk and fun loving character. Living in Garrett for over 50 years, she belonged to many clubs and organizations and raised her family there. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn. She was a dedicated Lutheran. Had a strong faith that was the foundation of her family and even organized a Lutheran Church service at the Assisted Living Center in recent years living in Indianapolis. Being a member of St. John Lutheran Church. She loved watching MLB the St Louis Cardinals, loved Elvis, plants and flowers. She loved children and babies and helped raise many of her nieces and nephews over the years by opening her heart and home to many. She had many friends and a zest for life. She will be greatly missed by many. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Thomas Funeral Home - Garrett, IN. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Thomas Funeral home with Rev. James Link officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Creek Cemetery - Garrett, IN Memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church - Indianapolis, IN
