Ruth I. Gerner, age 89 of Butler, IN and formerly of Garrett, IN died at 7:55 p.m. Thursday, August 22, 2013 at the Laurels of DeKalb. She was born December 27, 1923 in Garrett, IN to Karl M. and Hazel M. (Edwards) Gerner. She was an executive secretary at Magnavox and Bowmar Instruments in Ft. Wayne, IN. She was a member of the First Church of Christ in Garrett, where she taught Sunday school and was an organist & pianist. She was a member of the Professional Business Women of Garrett. Ruth is survived by her sister: Pearl Gerner, Garrett, IN and many friends. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Thomas Funeral Home- Garrett, IN. and from 9- 10 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2013 at the First Church Of Christ in Garrett. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2013 at the First Church of Christ in Garrett, with Brother Bud Owen officiating. Burial will follow in Christian Union Cemetery - Garrett, IN. Memorials are to the Missions Department at the First Church of Christ or to the DeKalb County Humane Shelter.
