Sammye Jean Jackson, age 67 of Garrett, IN, died on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at DeKalb Memorial Hospital in Auburn, IN. She was born August 29, 1942 in Hindman, KY to John and Freda (Butcher) Kilgore. She married Harry G. Jackson Jr. on March 22, 1986 in Garrett. Sammye was a cheese maker at County Line Cheese for 19 years. She was a member of the Garrett American Legion Auxiliary. Sammye loved to read, do art projects and collect antiques. Sammye is survived by her husband, Harry G. Jackson Jr. of Garrett; a daughter, Katherine Kilgore of Batavia, OH; 3 step sons, Jeffrey Scott Jackson of Auburn, Mark Allen and Tina Jackson of Garrett and Gregory W. and Deb Jackson of Fort Wayne; 3 brothers, George and Shelva Kilgore of Burlington, KY, John and Mary Kay Kilgore of Fort Wayne and Chad and Dee Kilgore of Auburn; 5 sisters, Dorothy and Ralph Summers of Auburn, Shelia and Rick Bush of Sparta, TN, Marlene and Dillard Bentley of Brinkley, KY, Madeline Chaffins of Garrett and Gwen Kilgore of Hindman, KY. Also surviving are 4 granddaughters; Siobhan Elizabeth Stephenson of Batavia, OH, Emily Jackson of Auburn, Destiny Jackson of Garrett and Hannah Jackson of Fort Wayne; a grandson, Devon Jackson of Garrett and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Tammy Simons, son, Timmy Simons and brother, Charles Kilgore. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Garrett. The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 6 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Sam Weimer officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Creek Cemetery in Garrett.
