Shirley I. Griffin age 86 of Garrett, IN passed away Thursday, January 30, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born on December 12, 1938 east of Butler Center – south of Garrett to William I. and Mildred L. (Renkenberger) Wappes.

She married Richard B. Griffin on October 11, 1958 at the Garrett United Methodist Church. She worked in the School cafeteria at G-K-B schools.

Shirley was a member of the Garrett United Methodist Church and the Garrett Garden Club.

Shirley is survived by her husband: Richard B. Griffin, Garrett, IN; daughter: Penny (Tom "T.C." Cook) Griffin, Garrett, IN; son: Tim (Jamie) Griffin, Garrett, IN; 3 grandchildren: Kipp Griffin, Cassie Griffin, and Madison Griffin; great grandchildren: Olivia Boyer and Paisley Jones; sister in-laws: Jean Wappes and Erma Wappes.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents: William I. and Mildred L. Wappes; brothers: Jack Wappes, George Wappes, William "Billy" Wappes, Merlin Wappes, Max Wappes; sisters: Dorothy Loft and Ora McFarland.

Visitation will take place from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, February 3, 2025 at Thomas Funeral Home, 1277 C.R. 56, Garrett, IN

Services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at Thomas Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Nelson officiating.

Burial will take place in Cedar Creek Cemetery – Auburn, IN

Memorials are to the Garrett United Methodist Church or the Garrett Garden Club.
